I don't know where to start, so I guess the beginning is good. My baby sister, Terri Lynn was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of 2009. 1 year later to the day, our mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. My sister has a wonderful support system, which includes her husband who has stood by her through all of her sickness. Her daughter, Emmy who is 16 and has been a real trooper through everything, as well as her other family. My sister is the strongest person I know! She has undergone a double mastectomy and various other health issues and still manages to hold her head high and fight.
Thank the Lord, she is a survivor! Our mother, was not so fortunate. She lived 8 months after her diagnosis. I was her caregiver and I watched her fight as well. She never once complained about anything. I took her to chemo treatments, moved in with her to take care of her, and did whatever she needed me to do.
Both of these women are true inspirations to me. I always tell my sister I don't think I could be as strong as she is and as strong as our mother was.
Since this terrible disease struck our family,we have became strong supporters of The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. We have formed a team,"The Cancer Dancers", and our motto is " Stomping Out Cancer, 1 Step At A Time!'. We will continue to participate and raise money until a cure is found for this dreaded disease!
